The second objective delivers operational support to key parts of the water and sanitation system. Fundamental to WSUP’s approach is the building of capacity of the stakeholders to provide improved service delivery to poor communities within cities in order to ensure sustainability beyond the life of projects. Strengthening key parts of the water and sanitation system ensures greater sustainability from both the supply and demand side. The meaningful participation of communities in the planning, design and implementation of project activities contributes to a sense of ownership and to the sustainability of the project outputs and outcomes.

The process of matching project need with the most relevant expertise is done with extreme care. Linking LSPs with other African/Asian service providers can be a highly effective methodology.
